Malika Dahir

Malika Dahir brings her dedication to equity work, storytelling, and leadership development to RISE as Executive Director. Her journey into narrative change began when she recognized the dearth of positive Muslim representations for her children, inspiring her to pioneer “Story Time” at the local co-op. Thisinitiative aimed to share uplifting narratives and images portraying Muslims, fostering a sense of inclusion for her children and their peers. Over time, Malika expanded this endeavor, organizing “International Storytime”sessions at Shelby County libraries, introducing diverse stories about Muslims and Islam to the wider community. Through these initiatives, she countered prevailing stereotypes and cultivated connections overstories and spiced tea, bridging cultural divides while honoring the oral traditions of her foremothers. Prior to joining RISE, Malika served at Pearls ofHope, a nonprofit dedicated to mentoring Muslim children and youth in the Twin Cities. In her capacity there, she orchestrated all operations, particularly emphasizing youth mentorship and volunteerism. Malika’s outstanding contributions earned her the prestigious Visionary Leadership Award from the Islamic Seminary of America and Rabata. Beyond her professional endeavors, Malika is a devoted wife and mother to three children. A seasoned nomad, she has traversed various locales, including Mogadishu, Toronto, and Memphis, before embracing the Twin Cities as home. Malika holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Environmental Studies from York University in Toronto, Canada.
