Announcement:
Please read a letter by Board Chair, Aisha Dualy regarding the cancellation of Deaf Iftar.
Dear Community,
We are writing to share an important announcement regarding our planned Deaf Iftar event scheduled for March 7th, 2026. After careful consideration and formal vote by the MDMC Board of Directors, we have made the decision to cancel this year’s Deaf Iftar. The decision was not made lightly. Given the current climate and heightened fear and safety concerns affecting many members of the communities we serve particularly Deaf, DeafPlus, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing and immigrant community members, the Board determined that proceeding with a large in person gathering at this time would not be in the best interest in community well-being. MDMC’s mission has always centered on care, dignity, accessibility, and safety. Listening to our community and responding thoughtfully during times of uncertainty is a responsibility we take seriously. We know this event is meaningful to many and we share the disappointment that comes with cancelling a long-standing tradition. We deeply appreciate the understanding, patience and continued trust of our community during this difficult moment. For sponsors, volunteers, interpreters, and partners who have committed to supporting this event, our staff will reach out directly with next steps and updates. We remain committed to serving and supporting our community and will continue to explore safe and responsive ways to connect and provide resources during this time.
Thank you for your continued support of MDMC and the community we serve.
With care and gratitude,
Aisha Dualy
